Yamaha is currently the weakest manufacturer in MotoGP, sitting at the bottom of the standings after the first two rounds of the season. In Argentina, its best rider was Álex Rins, who finished 11th.

Despite the struggles, Yamaha Motor Racing’s Managing Director, Paolo Pavesio, highlighted some encouraging takeaways: ‘The weekend has been challenging, but we can see some positive points. I’m mainly referring to the single lap speed, we’ve proven it on Saturday with two riders [going] directly into Q2. For sure, the bike has improved it’s absolute speed’.

However, the Italian acknowledged the need for better race performance: ‘However, the weekend has been complicated as far as the race pace is concerned. We have to find a good balance in order to properly exploit our potential and to properly manage the traction out of the corner. This has affected the overall performance of our riders’.

Pavesio reaffirmed Yamaha’s ambitions and motivation for the GP of the Americas: ‘We aim for more, and this is why we are motivated to go back working and somehow happy that in a couple of weeks we are going to race again in Austin’.
