MotoGP today announced the extension of its long-term partnership with Sportian, Globant’s sports division, with the aim of continuing the fight against digital piracy in motor sports.

This collaboration, which has lasted for more than five years, has demonstrated remarkable results in detecting and removing illegal content on various digital platforms, including social networks, applications, video-on-demand services, search engines and illegal streaming sites.

The technology used, now operated by Sportian’s Piracy Guard service, has set a new standard in the fight against sports piracy, managing to remove up to 99% of pirated content. The system combines advanced detection tools with specialized human supervision, ensuring that unauthorized broadcasts are identified in real time and quickly removed.

The partnership now intends to explore the integration of artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies to further improve the detection and categorization of pirated content, continuously adapting to new digital piracy tactics. The Piracy Guard service is not limited to the reactive removal of illegal content, but also offers proactive monitoring to identify emerging threats.

Next year, Sportian will continue to refine these services to adapt to new challenges, providing proactive security assessments to detect and eliminate vulnerabilities in the transmission landscape.

Dan Rossomondo, Commercial Director of Dorna Sports, owner of MotoGP rights, said: ‘Globant Sportian has been a valuable partner in protecting our content over the past five years. Their technology and experience have significantly reduced the impact of piracy on our sport, ensuring that our global audience continues to enjoy the most exciting sport on Earth through official broadcasters’.

MotoGP continues to register record attendance numbers, having exceeded 3 million spectators in 2024 for the first time in its history, in addition to reporting impressive growth in global television audiences and digital channels.

Pablo Lo Giudice, Business Manager for Content Protection at Sportian, added: ‘MotoGP is a pioneer in protecting sports content for the digital age, and we are proud to extend our successful partnership. Our ability to achieve continuous improvements, even as the volume of piracy increases, is testament to MotoGP and WorldSBK’s commitment to staying one step ahead in this fight’.

Piracy Guard, created from the internal piracy combat team at LALIGA (co-founder of Sportian), maintains working partnerships with more than 70 of the largest online platforms in the world and has Google TCRP certification, routinely achieving a removal rate of over 90%.
