Langen Motorcycles: O sonho de uma moto de 300 cv pode ver luz ao fundo do túnel através de crowdfunding

In a world where starting a new business seems like an almost impossible task, Langen Motorcycles has decided to turn to crowdfunding to make a bold project a reality: a naked motorcycle with 300 horsepower and a turbo engine. The British brand, which had already gained notoriety with its Two Stroke 250, now sees crowdfunding as a viable solution to expand its operations and bring its new creation, the Lightspeed, to the global market.

Creating and launching a new high-performance motorcycle is no easy task. Increasingly demanding regulations, difficulties in accessing credit and high production costs are just some of the obstacles that companies in the sector face. In Langen’s case, these barriers were decisive in the decision not to market the Two Stroke 250 in Europe, as the brand’s founder, Christofer Ratcliffe, explained to MCN: ‘We can’t sell in Europe because there’s too much bureaucracy for us. In Japan, there’s a single regulation for motorcycles under 250 cc, and ours has 249.5 cc’.

But if Europe imposes restrictions, Langen has found a growth opportunity in global markets. And to finance its expansion, the company has opted for an alternative model: crowdfunding.

Through the Republic Europe platform, Langen Motorcycles launched a campaign with the aim of raising 300,000 euros. The amount will be used to develop and market the Lightspeed, a motorcycle that promises to redefine performance standards in the segment. The campaign highlights the company’s philosophy: ‘Our reputation and success are based on a bespoke program, offering premium fully custom-built machines, with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) reliability. Building on the success of our first model, we aim to take our new innovative creations to global markets – driving the business and the brand’.

Interest in the project is already noticeable. Since 2020, Langen has sold more than $2.5 million in motorcycles, with only 32 of the 100 units of the first model delivered and 81% of production already reserved. With this solid base, the company believes that its second model, the Lightspeed, has the potential to reach a market up to 28 times larger than that of the United Kingdom, considering the new motorcycle registration numbers in 2023 in strategic markets such as the European Union, the United States and China.

The Lightspeed is still in the development and testing phase, a crucial process given its extreme performance. With 300 hp of power, this model requires rigorous evaluations to ensure that its handling is safe and controllable. Despite the challenges inherent to the sector, Langen has shown a promising trajectory, already reaching 70% of its funding goal.

In the competitive world of high-performance motorcycles, startups face significant obstacles, from production costs to regulatory challenges. However, Langen’s business model, focused on exclusivity and performance, seems to be attracting an audience willing to invest in a unique driving experience. If everything goes according to plan, we may soon see the Lightspeed roaring on the roads – and perhaps even fulfilling the dream of many speed enthusiasts.
