It’s now official: Miguel Oliveira will miss the MotoGP GP of the Americas Americas due to injury, and his replacement will be Augusto Fernández – making a return to the grid where he raced until the end of last year.

The Prima Pramac Yamaha rider suffered a dislocation of the sternoclavicular joint and ligament damage due to a crash in the Argentina GP Sprint race, where he was taken out by Fermín Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini/Ducati).

In the coming days, Oliveira will undergo further medical examinations to assess his recovery progress. Meanwhile, Fernández will step in for him in Austin, competing for the first time with Pramac and the YZR-M1.

The Spanish rider was signed as a Yamaha test rider and had already been scheduled to make a racing return that same weekend in Austin… but in the Superbike World Championship, replacing the injured Jonathan Rea (Pata Maxus Yamaha).

It is not yet officially confirmed, but all indications point to Miguel Oliveira missing the MotoGP GP of the Americas. His replacement will be Augusto Fernández, who will make a temporary return to the grid.

According to Sky Sport Italia, the Portuguese rider from Prima Pramac Yamaha will not be able to participate in the Austin round due to the injury sustained in the Sprint race of the Argentina GP when he was hit by Fermín Aldeguer (BK8 Gresini/Ducati).

Despite not suffering any fractures, Oliveira sustained a large hematoma in the sternoclavicular area – making two weeks insufficient for a full recovery to return to the bike.

Fernández, who is set to be Yamaha’s test and reserve rider in 2025, will take his place – which means he will not be competing in the Portimão round of the Superbike World Championship, scheduled for the same weekend as the GP of the Americas. The Spaniard was initially set to replace the injured Jonathan Rea at Pata Maxus Yamaha and had even tested at the track last week in preparation.

Marc Márquez remains undefeated in the 2025 MotoGP season, securing another dominant victory in the Argentina GP on Sunday.

Marc Márquez (Ducati) had a strong start, fending off an attack from his brother, Álex Márquez (BK8 Gresini/Ducati), while Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) settled into third place. However, the first corner saw a dramatic moment when Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha) collided with Marco Bezzecchi, eliminating the Aprilia rider from the race.

By lap four, the lead changed hands, with Álex overtaking Marc. Bagnaia remained in third but lacked the pace to challenge the leading duo. Franco Morbidelli (Pertamina Enduro VR46/Ducati) was fourth, followed by Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) in fifth.

On lap five, Morbidelli moved into podium contention, overtaking Bagnaia. The race began to mirror the Thai GP, with Marc closely managing his pace and front tire behind Álex. Meanwhile, Morbidelli pulled away from Bagnaia, but his pace started to drop midway through the race.

Further down the order, Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46/Ducati) and Ai Ogura (Trackhouse/Aprilia) battled for seventh place in an intriguing duel.

In fourth place, Bagnaia was not only lacking the pace to reach the podium, but he was also seeing Zarco getting closer behind him. It was a difficult race for the 2022 and 2023 champion, who still hasn’t found the ideal feeling with the Desmosedici GP25.

With nine laps to go, Marc’s approach to Álex became evident. The overtake seemed like only a matter of time, but it still wasn’t happening as the race neared its conclusion. Meanwhile, good news for Bagnaia, who managed to close the gap to Morbidelli while also pulling away from Zarco.

The decisive moment came on lap 21, when Marc used the slipstream on the back straight to overtake Álex and retake the lead. From that point on, no one could catch Marc, who secured another comfortable victory and continues his excellent form.

Álex Márquez finished a solid second, while Morbidelli completed the podium. Bagnaia closed in during the final laps but didn’t have the pace to launch an attack.

Di Giannantonio rounded out the top five, and Zarco was sixth as the best non-Ducati. Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) was seventh, and Ogura was eighth. It was a tough race for Yamaha, with Jack Miller (Prima Pramac Yamaha) as their best rider in 14th place.

Marc Márquez was back to his old tricks and won the Argentine GP Sprint, with the rider making the most of pole position and leading from start to finish on Argentine soil.

Everything was set for the start of the Sprint in Argentina and with the threat of worsening weather conditions, with clouds flying over Termas de Río Hondo.

Marc Márquez was the big favorite for victory and secured pole position with a record time, with the front row being made up of Álex Márquez and Johann Zarco, while the second had Pecco Bagnaia, Pedro Acosta and Fabio Di Giannantonio. Fabio Quartararo was the best Yamaha in seventh, and Marco Bezzecchi the best Aprilia in ninth.

Marc Márquez had a strong start to the race while Johann Zarco was “swallowed” and immediately lost some positions, with Pecco Bagnaia in turn moving up to third.

Brad Binder saw bad luck knock on his door very early and still during the first lap, he who was the Sprint winner in 2023. The South African from KTM crashed in the third sector and was out of the race before it had even practically started.

After a less happy start Zarco was already recovering and was fifth classified, behind Acosta, while Álex Márquez was the fastest for now on track and was determined not to let Marc escape.

Race Direction meanwhile informed that the incident that led to Binder’s crash was under investigation, with the replay of the moment involving Franco Morbidelli.

The incident did not result in negative actions for anyone and the race continued normally. The race continued at a good pace and had M. Márquez leading over Álex, Bagnaia was third and Zarco was already fourth.

Fermín Aldeguer and Miguel Oliveira meanwhile were involved in a crash, which was being investigated. Oliveira abandoned and Aldeguer resumed the race in last position.

Fermín Aldeguer and Miguel Oliveira were meanwhile involved in a fall, which was being investigated. Oliveira retired and Aldeguer resumed the race in last position.

Shortly afterwards Lorenzo Savadori retired and headed to the Aprilia Racing garage.

Back in the race Márquez seemed to have the action under control and remained ahead of his brother and gradually gained an advantage, while Bagnaia in third was more than 2.3s behind the leader and teammate.

With four laps to go, this is what the top ten looked like:

Álex was trying hard but Marc wasn’t giving in, and, quite the opposite, he was getting further and further away and with the Sprint in his hands. Only one mistake would prevent the Spaniard from achieving another victory.

No surprises and in full control, Marc Márquez confirmed another victory at the helm of the Desmosedici and shows once again what’s coming in 2025!

Marc Márquez is having an absolutely dominant start to the season, and has just secured another pole position for the Argentine Grand Prix with the best lap ever at the circuit!

Franco Morbidelli, Joan Mir, Johann Zarco, Fabio Quartararo, Brad Binder, Pedro Acosta, Álex Rins, Fabio Di Giannantonio, Francesco Bagnaia, Marco Bezzecchi, Álex Márquez and Marc Márquez, here are the riders who will be competing for pole position at Termas de Río Hondo!

Wasting no time, the riders took to the track straight away and in the first attacks on the times, it was Marc Márquez who stood out with a lap in 1:37.142s, a difference of 0.063s over Zarco. The Frenchman became the fastest rider ever on a Honda at the Argentinian circuit!

It looked like the times were going to go into the second 36, with Marc Márquez the favourite to do so, and on his third lap he was just 0.023s away from doing so, with a time of 1:37.023s, a new lap record at the circuit!

Soon after, his brother Álex was 0.140s off the #93 and second fastest. Zarco was third, Bezzecchi fourth and Acosta fifth.

The session was reaching the halfway point, with the riders heading to the teams’ garage:

Bezzecchi was trying to give his all, but it was Bagnaia who was in the spotlight now, moving up from eighth to fourth, 0.245s off his team-mate, still the benchmark in the session. Acosta, shortly afterwards, set his best time on his fifth lap, and was precisely fifth behind the Italian on the Ducati.

Marc Márquez was giving it his all and with the red sectors, a new track record was anticipated for the Spaniard who… had arrived! There it was, Marc Márquez once again improving his record and confirming his first lap in second 36th at Termas de Río Hondo, with a time of 1:36.917s!

Unsurprisingly, the session ended shortly afterwards with Márquez taking another pole position!!!

Marc Márquez is unstoppable in this early stage of his Ducati journey. This Friday, he set a new lap record at Termas de Río Hondo to top the Practice session for the Argentina GP.

After the first flying laps, Brad Binder (Red Bull KTM) was leading ahead of Ai Ogura (Trackhouse/Aprilia), with Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) in third. The situation didn’t last long, as brothers Marc (Ducati) and Álex (BK8/Ducati) Márquez moved to the top.

Álex was the next to take the lead, with Marc dropping to third after also being overtaken by his teammate, Francesco Bagnaia. Meanwhile, Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) moved into second, with Bezzecchi in fourth, pushing Marc Márquez down to fifth.

With 38 minutes to go, there were changes at the top, as Zarco took the lead. He was soon beaten by Marc Márquez, who dipped into the 1m37s. The circuit lap record was close to falling. Later, Bezzecchi moved up to second, also lapping in the 1m37s. Even better was Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM) in the final 15 minutes, getting within 0.088s of Marc Márquez.

Shortly after, Bezzecchi officially broke the circuit’s record, clocking a 1m37.510s lap to take the lead. This finally broke the longest-standing circuit lap record in MotoGP, 11 years after it was set. Marc Márquez went even faster with nine minutes remaining, at a time when Álex Márquez was in third and Álex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha) was fourth.

With 4m45s remaining, a setback for Bagnaia, who crashed while in sixth place. The yellow flags led to the cancellation of several riders’ laps. Until the end, several riders improved, which dropped the Italian to tenth. He secured direct entry to the second phase of qualifying by just 0.011s ahead of Ogura.

At the front, Marc Márquez confirmed his lead with his last lap, completing it in 1m37.295s. Fabio Di Giannantonio (Pertamina Enduro VR46/Ducati) was second, 0.135s behind, followed by Álex Márquez, Bezzecchi, and Binder in the top five. Also advancing to Q2 are Rins, Zarco, Fabio Quartararo (Monster Energy Yamaha), Acosta, and, as previously mentioned, Bagnaia.

Pedro Acosta has been tied to KTM for several years and made his MotoGP factory team debut this season. However, his stay could be short-lived, depending on results and the bike’s performance.

According to AS, there is a growing possibility that the Spaniard could join the Pertamina Enduro VR46 Ducati team next year. However, this scenario remains distant. The team currently has Fabio Di Giannantonio under contract until the end of 2026, while Franco Morbidelli is only signed for this season.

Acosta’s manager, Albert Valera, emphasized that his future with KTM depends on performance: ‘We hope things go very well with KTM and that we can stay for many years. It depends on KTM. Pedro is committed to the brand, and his goal is to win World Championships with KTM’.

Although Acosta remains loyal to KTM and prioritizes the Austrian manufacturer, he didn’t hold back in praising Ducati’s Gigi Dall’Igna for his impressive work: ‘Of course, Gigi is one step ahead of the others. That’s clear. Looking at how the category has evolved, in the end, he was the one who invented many of the things we are all using now […]. They are a step ahead. What do I like about them? I wish I could try one to say what I like more about that bike than mine’.

What happened in Thailand seems likely to repeat itself in Argentina. Marc Márquez led the first free practice session this morning at Termas de Río Hondo, quickly showing his speed.

Johann Zarco (Castrol Honda LCR) was the first session leader, ahead of Maverick Viñales (Red Bull KTM Tech3). The two remained as the early pace-setters in a session that was not very representative, as the track conditions were expected to be at their worst throughout the weekend.

Álex Rins (Monster Energy Yamaha) moved up to third, with Marco Bezzecchi (Aprilia) in fourth after ten minutes. Surprisingly, at this stage, no Ducati was among the top eight.

With 28 minutes to go, Bezzecchi finally surpassed Zarco to take the lead. However, shortly after, Álex Márquez (BK8 Gresini/Ducati) went even faster. Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM) and Joan Mir (Honda HRC Castrol) were also among the top five at that stage.

A few moments later, Marc Márquez (Ducati) set the fastest time, ahead of his brother Álex. A «déjà vu» of what happened two weeks ago in Buriram. Zarco had improved, moving up to third before reclaiming first place with 20 minutes left. Entering the final ten minutes, Bezzecchi climbed to second.

With seven minutes remaining, Marc Márquez returned to the top of the timesheets. No one was able to dethrone him until the end, although Zarco improved to finish second, just 0.026 seconds behind. Álex Márquez secured third place, with Bezzecchi in fourth and Luca Marini (Honda HRC Castrol) completing the top five.

Meanwhile, Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) had a quiet session, finishing only 16th, more than 1.3 seconds behind Marc Márquez. Despite the unusual track conditions, there are certainly some concerns for the #63.

Jorge Martín has confirmed he will not race in the MotoGP Americas GP at the end of March – the third round of the season. His participation in the Qatar GP also remains uncertain.

The Aprilia rider suffered two injuries in February, both requiring surgery. The most serious came just days before the Thai GP, when he fractured the scaphoid in his left hand.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Martín provided an update on his recovery, revealing he won’t be racing in Austin in two weeks time:

I’m really suffering, it’s not my moment. I’m struggling to recover fast – not as fast as I would like. I can say from here also that I won’t be in Austin – I would like to be there, but I won’t be racing. I don’t know if I can be in Qatar, I don’t know yet – this is still very early for sure.

After missing most of pre-season testing and dealing with complicated injuries, Martín hopes to test before making his competitive return: ‘I would like to do some kind of testing before coming back to racing because I’m not feeling very well. I know Massimo [Rivola] is also working on that, so let’s see if we can make it possible’.

Two years later, the MotoGP World Championships return to the Autódromo Termas de Río Hondo for the Argentina GP – the second round of the season.

Track and weather conditions will be very different from those in Thailand, and there is also much less track experience, as Buriram hosted two days of testing before the GP.

In MotoGP, Ducati continues to dominate, with Marc Márquez standing out after securing two wins from pole position, ahead of the surprising Álex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati). Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) is looking to bounce back immediately after failing to compete for victories in Thailand.

The opening round showed improvements from Honda and Yamaha, while Aprilia proved it could be in the top five, as demonstrated by Ai Ogura (Trackhouse). Meanwhile, KTM has not yet made the competitive leap it hoped for.

In Moto2, Manuel González (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP/Kalex) started with a win, followed by Arón Canet (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego/Kalex) – both strong title contenders. Diogo Moreira (Italtrans Racing Team/Kalex) narrowly missed the podium, and now, racing close to home, he will look to make amends. Some top contenders struggled in Buriram, particularly those on Boscoscuro bikes and rookie David Alonso (CFMOTO Aspar/Kalex).

In Moto3, Red Bull KTM Ajo opened the season with a 1-2 finish, with José Antonio Rueda leading Álvaro Carpe, while Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda) took third. However, not all top contenders had the same luck, such as Dennis Foggia (CFMOTO Aspar/KTM) in sixth and Ángel Piqueras (Frinsa-MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) in 12th.

The Argentina GP promises more excitement as the competitive hierarchy in each category continues to take shape. Here is the full schedule (CET times).
