Motorcycling safety has taken a significant step forward with the launch of the new Tech-Air 5 Plasma airbag waistcoat from Alpinestars. This innovative piece of equipment promises to offer top-level protection without compromising on style or rider comfort. With an elegant and versatile design, it can be worn under any type of jacket, making it a practical option for different riding styles.

Unlike traditional systems, which require a specific jacket or are bulky, the Tech-Air 5 Plasma adapts to any outfit. Whether it’s for a track day, a relaxed ride or an urban commute, this waistcoat fits easily under any leather or textile jacket or even a casual waistcoat.

Weighing just 1.53kg, it’s 25% lighter than the previous model, guaranteeing unrestricted mobility. The flexible, breathable structure allows for effective ventilation, while the moisture management treatment maintains comfort even during prolonged journeys. What’s more, it’s fully washable, an essential bonus for motorcyclists travelling long distances.

The Tech-Air 5 Plasma uses the same technology tested and approved by MotoGP riders, but adapted for everyday use. Equipped with six internal sensors – including two triaxial accelerometers and a gyroscope – the waistcoat continuously monitors the wearer’s movements. In the event of an accident, the system deploys the airbag in just 1/40th of a second, protecting the most vulnerable areas such as the chest, ribs, back and shoulders.

For greater customisation, the rider can switch between three different modes: Street, Race and Off-Road. This feature allows for an appropriate response to each riding environment, guaranteeing maximum protection in any situation.

The waistcoat not only inflates to create extra protection, but also integrates a Nucleon Plasma dorsal protector certified to CE level 2. This certification attests to one of the highest safety standards in protective equipment for motorcyclists.

Another major improvement is the easy recharging system. Previous models required a visit to a service centre to replace the gas cartridge after a trigger. Now, the Tech-Air 5 Plasma allows the user to replace the cartridge themselves, making it possible to carry out up to six restarts before needing a complete airbag replacement.

The autonomy is also impressive. With a battery that lasts up to 30 hours on a single charge, this waistcoat guarantees protection even on long journeys. Charging is done via USB-C, making the process quick and convenient. In addition, Bluetooth connectivity allows you to pair the waistcoat with the Tech-Air app to monitor battery status, update firmware and perform system diagnostics.

The Tech-Air 5 Plasma represents a significant investment. However, for those who value safety and want to reduce the risk of serious injury in the event of an accident, this technological advance justifies the high cost of around €700. Alpinestars continues to innovate and make it affordable to protect motorcyclists with cutting-edge technology.

The Tech-Air 5 Plasma is not just an airbag waistcoat; it’s a leap towards a safer future for those on two wheels.
