Golfing maestro Scottie Scheffler, with his two significant victories at Augusta, is no stranger to the nerve-wracking moments that define the champions at this revered golf course. Having triumphed in 2022 and 2024, Scheffler’s name is now etched among the greats who have mastered the challenging fairways of Augusta.

As the 2025 Masters looms on the horizon, Scheffler is gearing up to clinch a record third victory, a feat that would place him in the annals of golfing history. To achieve this, he will have to summon his finest performance and display remarkable precision to ensure he doesn’t falter under pressure.

In a candid exchange with the press, Scheffler reminisced about his time at Augusta, highlighting the best and worst shots of his career. When queried about his top shot, he admitted he was spoilt for choice. However, he singled out the significant pitch-in on the third hole during the 2022 Masters. The shot, he recalls, was critical at that juncture of the tournament and had a profound impact on the final outcome.

In contrast, he also acknowledged his impressive 5-iron shot into the fifth hole as one of the most satisfying shots he’s ever played, leaving him feeling exceptionally confident. It’s these memorable moments that create a champion, but Scheffler was also candid about his mishaps at Augusta.

While trying to recall his worst shot, Scheffler humorously acknowledged the notorious four-putt on the 18th hole during his victorious 2022 campaign. This blunder, while not derailing his victory, serves as a reminder that even the best can falter under pressure.

Despite his impressive record, Scheffler has had his share of struggles at Augusta. He’s endured a few close calls with double bogeys threatening to derail his progress. However, his strength lies in his resilience, evident in the fact that he seldom records anything worse.

Scheffler’s 2024 victory was marked by just one double bogey throughout the week, while his most memorable misstep, the tentative four-putt on the 18th hole, was his sole double bogey in the 2022 Masters.

Interestingly, in the 2023 tournament which he didn’t win, Scheffler registered two double bogeys and a further seven bogies. The 18th hole, in particular, seems to be a recurrent challenge for Scheffler, having made a double bogey there in 2021 as well.

As Scheffler prepares to chase his third title in four years, he will have to confront his past struggles on the 18th hole. Recreating his 2024 performance of finishing at least one under could be key to overcoming this hurdle. As the Masters approaches, all eyes will be on Scheffler as he vies to make golfing history.
