This weekend marks the penultimate round of the X-Trial World Championship, with an event in Cahors, France, which could be decisive in the title race. After a brilliant season, Toni Bou will look to deliver the definitive blow in his journey towards another world title, while his teammate, Gabriel Marcelli, remains in third place in the championship with 63 points.

Saturday will be an important day for Bou who, with five wins in six events so far, will have the opportunity to secure his 37th world title – his 19th in the indoor discipline. To achieve this, the rider only needs to score one point in the Cahors event, a city where he won the TrialGP Championship last season. The Montesa Cota 4RT rider aims to maintain the level he has demonstrated throughout the year.

‘We’re really looking forward to Cahors. It’s a special city for me, as I was able to win the TrialGP title there last season, so I have some very good memories of it’, stated Bou. ‘We have a good opportunity this weekend, so the goal will be to continue the good results we’ve shown so far. The weekend you can win the World Championship is always different; there’s more nerves and pressure, but we’ll focus on putting in a good performance’.

For his part, Marcelli continues to improve his results, after overcoming the difficulties of the early stages of the season. With four podium finishes, three of them consecutive, he currently sits third in the overall standings. His goal remains the same: to achieve his first race victory. The consistent progress of the Repsol Honda rider reflects his talent and determination, showing that he is ready to take a step forward in his career.

– I’ve found more of a rhythm with the new regulations in the last few races and I’ve adapted to be able to qualify directly for the final. I’m excited about Cahors because we’re coming off a very good third-place finish in Austria. The goal is to improve my consistency in the final and fight for my first win. I think I need to make fewer mistakes in the finals because they are very costly, but we’re working hard to achieve our goals.

The Cahors X-Trial event will take place on Saturday, starting at 6:30 p.m. (local time), at the Parc des Expositions du Grand Cahors.

Legendary rider Toni Bou once again demonstrated his dominance at the Barcelona X-Trial, securing his 18th victory in this event and consolidating his position at the top of the championship. However, the night was marked by Adam Raga’s emotional farewell, who ended his career with a brilliant second place, supported by the warm Catalan crowd.

Bou Maintains Hegemony
Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Trial Team) confirmed his favoritism by claiming his third consecutive victory of 2025, prevailing by a three-point margin over Adam Raga (Sherco). With a consistent performance and no major errors, Bou demonstrated once again why he is considered one of the best riders ever in the sport.

On the third step of the podium, Gabriel Marcelli (Repsol Honda Trial Team) overcame Benoit Bincaz (Sherco) and consolidated fourth position in the championship, distancing himself from the French rider.

The night was special for Adam Raga, who competed in his last X-Trial event, ending an impressive career with a total of 159 participations. The Spanish veteran didn’t have an easy qualification, missing automatic transfer in Q1 only due to a tiebreaker criterion with Benoit Bincaz. However, he recovered extraordinarily in Q2, eliminating Jaime Busto by less than four seconds and securing access to the Final.

In the decisive stage, Raga shone, opening a four-point advantage over Gabriel Marcelli in the second section and defending it until the end. The result guaranteed him his best performance since X-Trial Bordeaux in April 2023, closing his career with a podium finish and a memorable farewell.

Jaime Busto was one of the night’s biggest casualties. The Spanish rider arrived in Barcelona just five points behind Toni Bou in the general classification but delivered a below-par performance, finishing seventh in Q1 and scoring only two points, compared to Bou’s twenty. As a result, the gap to the championship leader increased to 23 points, complicating his title aspirations.

Among the remaining riders, Aniol Gelabert (TRRS) and Matteo Grattarola (Beta) stood out in their first appearance of the season, while Harry Hemingway (Beta) closed the list of participants in a highly contested competition.

Berta Abellán Shines in Women’s Trophy Debut
The night also marked the start of the X-Trial Women’s World Trophy, with Berta Abellán (Scorpa) emerging as the main protagonist. The Spanish rider dominated the event, finishing with an eleven-point advantage over Denisa Pechakova (TRRS) in second place, and Andrea Sofia Rabino (Beta), who completed the podium.

Berta Abellán celebrated her second consecutive victory in Barcelona and highlighted the importance of crowd support: “It was an incredible feeling to win here again and feel the fans’ affection. It’s the best way to approach the next round.”

The X-Trial World Championship now enters its second half, with the next round taking place in Stavanger on February 8th. The second round of the Women’s Trophy will also be contested at the same event, where Berta Abellán will look to maintain her leadership.

The Indoor Trial World Champion, Toni Bou, achieved a spectacular victory today at the first edition of the X-Trial in Clermont-Ferrand, taking the sole lead in the World Championship of the category.

The French event, which kept spectators on the edge of their seats until the last section, saw the Repsol Honda Trial Team rider outshine his main rivals. Jaime Busto, riding his GasGas, finished in second place, just 3 points behind the winner, while Adam Raga, from Sherco, completed the podium 5 points adrift.

The final was particularly intense, with Busto faltering in the first section, where he incurred the maximum penalty, while Bou and Raga kept clean sheets. Despite a remarkable recovery in sections two and three, Busto’s hopes of victory faded in the sixth section, where a three-point penalty definitively sealed the outcome.

This victory allows Bou to extend his championship lead to five points, solidifying his position as the competition leader.

Adam Raga, who secured his place in the final after eliminating Gabriel Marcelli in a head-to-head duel in Q2, delivered a remarkable performance. Initially dominating the battle with Busto in the final, a mistake in the last section cost him a better result.

Benoit Bincaz, also on Sherco, completed the top four, having qualified from Q1 with just a one-point advantage over Raga. However, in the Grand Final, he managed to complete only one section successfully.

Special mention goes to Matteo Grattarola of Beta, who proved to be a competitive addition to the field, finishing just one point behind Marcelli in Q1 and three seconds off the best time in Q2. The Italian will be back in the next round in Barcelona.

The fourth round of the X-Trial World Championship will take place at the Palau Sant Jordi in Barcelona on February 2.

‘It was a completely different final from Chambéry, with very narrow margins where any mistake could have cost the victory,’ commented Bou after the triumph. ‘Jaime and Adam didn’t make it easy for me, but this victory gives me the solo lead in the championship, which is crucial.’

Clermont-Ferrand hosts a round of the FIM X-Trial World Championship for the first time this Friday, promising an exciting evening at the Zénith d’Auvergne, starting at 20:00.

Eighteen-time world champion Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Trial Team) and two-time world runner-up Jaime Busto (GasGas) come into this third round tied on points. Busto won the opening race in Madrid, with Bou in second place, while in the Chambéry stage, Bou reversed the situation, topping the podium. Both have accumulated 35 points and will contest the tie-breaker on French soil.

Adam Raga (Sherco), currently in third place, is having a farewell season and has already secured two consecutive finals and a podium. Raga has a three-point lead over Gabriel Marcelli (Repsol Honda Trial Team), who is in fourth place. After a difficult start in Madrid, Marcelli bounced back in Chambéry, where he took third place on the podium, just one point off second place.

Frenchman Benoit Bincaz (Sherco) is looking to return to the final after missing out in the last round, and hopes to compete for a place in the Top 3, just as he did in Madrid. Grattarola (Beta) returns after a disappointing 2024 season, in which he failed to stand out after a fourth place in the opener in Barcelona. At the same time, young talents Dufrese (Beta) and Green (Scorpa) continue to develop in a discipline as demanding and spectacular as X-Trial.

The competition takes place in a venue recognized by the French Ministry of Culture, which has already hosted various sporting events, including the Davis Cup and the start of the Paris-Dakar rally, as well as concerts by international stars such as Lenny Kravitz, Bob Dylan, Scorpions, Mark Knopfler and Ed Sheeran.

Repsol has ended its partnership with Honda in MotoGP, but the two brands will continue to collaborate in other motorcycle disciplines. The separation affects only the MotoGP project.

According to MotoSprint, Honda and Repsol will remain partners in Trial and X-Trial until at least 2027, with the Spanish oil company continuing as the team’s primary sponsor.

Honda is a dominant force in trial competitions, largely due to the legendary Toni Bou, who has amassed an unprecedented 36 world titles across indoor and outdoor championships. Bou now aims to reach the incredible milestone of 40 titles.

For the 2025 season, Bou’s teammate will once again be Gabriel Marcelli, who has been steadily improving and is considered a promising future talent for Honda in the trial discipline.

The first round of the 2025 X-Trial World Championship, held in Madrid, provided a night of intense emotions at the Palacio Vistalegre. Jaime Busto achieved a remarkable victory in a highly difficult Final, surpassing Toni Bou and Adam Raga, who completed the podium.

The competition was marked by a balance between the four finalists, separated by a margin of just six points throughout the entire contest. Section Two was the decisive moment for Busto’s victory, where the rider achieved an impeccable performance, unlike his rivals, who did not avoid penalties. With this advantage, the Spaniard maintained control of the competition until the last pass.

Toni Bou and Adam Raga continue to add chapters to their battles Toni Bou, the usual favorite, saw his chances of victory compromised right from Section One, where he received a five-point penalty that generated some controversy.

Even so, Bou remained competitive, delivering a remarkable effort in the Final Section, which was decisive in securing him second place, just one point ahead of the Sherco riders. Adam Raga, in turn, once again shone on the stage where he became World Champion for the first time in 2003. After a long absence from the podiums, the veteran achieved third place by winning the tiebreaker against teammate Benoit Bincaz, who failed to overcome the tiebreaker Section.

Surprises and frustrations in qualifying Benoit Bincaz was the last rider to secure a place in the Final, eliminating Gabriel Marcelli in the second qualifier with a 13.7-second advantage, despite a 10-second penalty in the new Sprint format. In the initial phase, Sondre Haga (GasGas) was 10 points away from qualifying, while Jack Peace (Sherco) and Miquel Gelabert (Vertigo) had performances below expectations, especially for Gelabert, in a disappointing start to the season.

Statements from the Protagonists

Jaime Busto highlighted the importance of the triumph: ‘Starting the season with victory, especially in such a demanding Final, is very special. At the beginning I was nervous, but I gained confidence as I progressed’.

Toni Bou acknowledged the difficulties: ‘The Final was tough, especially due to the penalty in Section One, which I still believe was a misunderstanding. Even so, I recovered and second place is a result I can accept’.

Adam Raga celebrated his return to the podium: ‘This podium means a lot to me, especially here in Madrid, where I won my first world title. It was a special night and I am proud of my performance’.

The next round of the X-Trial World Championship will be held in Chambéry, France, on January 11th, where the riders will continue the battle for the 2025 title.

Toni Bou (Repsol Honda Trial Team) claimed his fourth consecutive victory of 2024, but in the closest Grand Final yet this season.  Only in the final Section was Bou able to confirm victory ahead of Gabriel Marcelli and Toby Martyn in an all-Montesa podium.

Bou also conceded only his second Championship point with defeat in the opening Round to Marcelli, setting the tone for a challenging night.  A second-Round crash for the 17-times World Champion wasn’t enough to deprive him of top spot after the nine qualifying Sections, but it was enough to leave him with an injured shoulder that restricted his later rides and ultimately his winning margin to just four marks.

Excellent performances in the challenging Section Three proved the basis for a strong night to Marcelli, giving him his first bonus point of the season in Round One, then bringing him back into contention in the Final.  But ultimately his failure in Section One proved too costly for him to really take the fight to Bou, who was already 8 marks ahead after just the opening two Sections.

Toby Martyn secured the third podium of his career with an excellent Round Two display, seeing off Jaime Busto (GasGas) who was left to rue his three consecutive fiascos in Round One.  Busto’s early elimination for the first time this season sees him slip behind Marcelli to third in the Championship.

Benoit Bincaz (Sherco) consolidated his place in the series’ top five, and therefore his qualification to X-Trial Andorra la Vella in October, by beating Matteo Grattarola (Beta).  Just as in Chalon-Sur-Saône and Nice it was another miserable second run that ruined the Italian veteran’s night, as this time he went from only three marks behind the podium places to finish a disappointing seventh.

That allowed Gaël Chatagno to claim an impressive scalp after his strong second Round on his and Electric Motion’s X-Trial debut with sixth.  Home rider Noé Pretalli (GasGas) completed the finishers, also on his debut.

In the second round of the season, Toni Bou secured his second victory in the X-Trial series. This Friday night, the Repsol Honda rider emerged victorious in Chalon-sur-Saône (France).

Since the first round, the Spaniard has been leading the pack: he accumulated just one penalty point, besides being the fastest by a clear margin. In the second round, he incurred no penalties and maintained his lead, although he was not the fastest, thus finishing the first two rounds in first place with just one point – compared to Jaime Busto’s ten (GasGas).

In the final, which also featured Gabriel Marcelli (Repsol Honda Team/Montesa), Busto accrued seven penalty points, but it was more than enough to secure the win: Marcelli finished second with 17 points, while Busto ended up in third with 22 penalty points.

With the victory in this round held in France, Bou leads the championship with the maximum possible points at this stage – 44 points. Marcelli is second with 27 points, the same as Busto.

With a sporting curriculum full of successes, Toni Bou feels like a fish in water. At the age of 37, the rider has already won 34 world titles, a total of 221 victories and 291 podium finishes in Trial GP and X-Trial races.

‘I’m 37, but I’ve been living this dream for 17 consecutive years, winning a double title with Repsol Honda. I’m enjoying it and I still have a lot to burn’ said the experienced rider, who was named one of the best sportsmen in 2023 at the 76th edition of the gala organised by the newspaper Mundo Deportivo.

With his contract renewed with Honda for another four years, Bou will try to win six more championships during this period in order to reach 40 titles. If he keeps up his current pace, he will fulfil this goal in 2026, with one more season left on his contract, which expires in 2027.
