‘I can’t guarantee a victory, not even a fifth place when I return’ – Jorge Martín

Jorge Martín injured his left hand and foot about a month ago, and there are no prospects for his return to the track yet. He will also miss the GP of the Americas, and his return in Qatar is uncertain.

As if the physical condition – he fractured the scaphoid, which is difficult to recover from – wasn’t enough, the rider also has to deal with the lack of competitive rhythm and the limited knowledge of his bike, the Aprilia RS-GP.

In February, besides the injuries that are causing his current absence, Martín also hurt himself during the first laps of the Sepang test. As a result, he missed the entire preseason and only has one day on the bike with the team. Moreover, he hasn’t ridden a MotoGP bike since November.

Given all this, the 2024 world champion is aware that he can’t be overly ambitious with his goals upon returning to racing. Martín told La Gazzetta dello Sport:

– Saying that the goal is to come back and try to win immediately would be the best way to injure myself again. I can’t guarantee a victory, not even a fifth place. I can guarantee that I will do my best and always try to be the best version of myself. Winning will become a consequence.
