The opening round of the World Superbike Championship left Toprak Razgatlioglu on the verge of a nervous breakdown and considering the championship as a ‘Ducati Cup,’ even leading the current title holder to “threaten” to quit if the situation, in terms of rules, remained as it is. Gigi Dall’Igna recently made a point of not leaving the Turkish rider without a response.

The General Director of Ducati Corse, who leads both the MotoGP project and Superbikes, made sure to explain that there is a reason why the Italian motorcycle is so desired and sought after, as he explained, quoted by SPEEDWEEK.com: ‘We don’t offer motorcycles. When teams approach us, it’s because our package is among the best, both financially and in terms of performance. There was also a team that changed sides and deserted BMW for Ducati. This is probably a sign that we are dealing better with our satellite teams’.

Dall’Igna then made a point of explaining that Ducati has contributed greatly to the interest and increased competitiveness in the paddock: ‘But I don’t think it’s a mistake. It’s better from the championship’s point of view. If the races are competitive, it’s also thanks to Ducati, because we provide not only the factory team, but the entire grid, with a high-level motorcycle’.

The executive also recalled the year 2024 and how Razgatlioglu was in a dominant form, making it clear that he has not forgotten the Turkish rider’s comments at the end of the Phillip Island round: ‘I have a lot of respect for Razgatlioglu, because his season was excellent. He won 13 consecutive races – so it was more or less a BMW Cup, because he dominated from start to finish. Things change and I don’t think we’re talking about a Ducati Cup today. Probably we have an excellent lineup of riders’.
