The YPF Infinia MXGP of Argentina, the first round of the 2025 MXGP World Championship, took place at the new Infinito Race Track circuit in Córdoba, attracting tens of thousands of fans. The new circuit offered an excellent setting for high-level racing in both categories, successfully replacing the former circuit of Villa La Angostura.
In the MXGP category, Maxime Renaux, former MX2 World Champion, returned to winning ways with Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP, achieving results of second and first in the two motos to reach his ninth GP victory and maintaining the red plate as championship leader. The new Aruba.it Ducati Factory MX Team impressed by claiming both Fox Holeshot Awards and finishing in 4th place overall with Mattia Guadagnini.
The podium was completed by former world champions Romain Febvre, who won the first moto for Kawasaki Racing Team, and Tim Gajser of Honda HRC, who started the season in typically strong fashion. In the MX2 class, current World Champion Kay de Wolf, of Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing, claimed his ninth GP victory with results of 1st-5th, despite a crash in the second moto.
In the first full race of the new MXGP season, Jeremy Seewer claimed the first Fox Holeshot Award for Ducati, but Febvre took the lead right at the second corner, followed by Renaux. Gajser finished third, while Guadagnini achieved his best result in more than a year, finishing fourth. In the second moto, Guadagnini got the Holeshot, but Renaux quickly took the lead and maintained it until the end.
With this victory, Renaux achieves his first GP triumph since Switzerland in April 2023 and maintains the red leader plate on the Yamaha. The French victory drought of 2024 was broken right at the beginning of the new season, and French riders occupy the top two positions in the World Championship as the series returns to Europe for the second round. The track conditions, initially wet due to morning rain, dried quickly and provided a perfect setting for exciting racing.
