Supercross champion Jett Lawrence and his brother Hunter Lawrence have announced the end of their collaboration with long-time agent Lucas Mirtl after disturbing findings of alleged ‘misappropriation of funds’.

The decision was made public through a statement released yesterday (January 23) by North American motocross journalist Lewis Phillips. In the statement, the brothers revealed that the suspicions arose recently and that the situation is already under investigation.

Here is the statement from the Lawrence brothers: ‘Over the last two weeks we became suspicious of potentially fraudulent activity related to one of our business accounts. Following an initial investigation, we became aware of and in possession of evidence of misuse and misappropriation of our personal funds by our agent Lucas Mirtl for his benefit and as of 9:00 AM EST this morning we have fired him’.

And continues: ‘Further, Wasserman [the agency for which Mirtl worked and to which both Lawrence brothers are signed] has fired him as well and we will continue our investigation and turn over all findings to the relevant authorities shortly. Wasserman will continue to represent us with Jacob Hayes and Travis Clarke taking over management duties’.

Lucas Mirtl played a crucial role in the Lawrence brothers’ careers, being responsible for their move from the European MXGP circuits to the United States in 2019. Under his management, Jett and Hunter Lawrence won important titles in the AMA Supercross 250SX and 250MX Pro Motocross categories, establishing themselves as two of the biggest names in world motocross.

Jett Lawrence’s rise has been particularly notable. In 2023, he became the third rider in history to win all races in an AMA Pro Motocross season and was the first rookie since Jeremy McGrath, in 1993, to win the main class title in the AMA Supercross.

The separation from Mirtl occurs at a time when the Lawrence brothers are at the peak of their sporting careers. Although Wasserman continues to manage their careers, with Jacob Hayes and Travis Clarke taking over responsibilities, the impact of this scandal raises questions about trust and security in the world of business negotiations in sports.

To date, neither Lucas Mirtl nor Wasserman’s legal representatives have issued any further comments on the allegations or the details of the ongoing investigation.

Motocross fans and the sports community are now eagerly awaiting the outcome of this situation, as Jett and Hunter Lawrence seek to maintain their focus on their careers and competitive future.

Jorge Prado will compete in the United States with Kawasaki in 2025, taking on the AMA Supercross, AMA Pro Motocross, and the SuperMotocross World Championship.

After securing two MXGP World Championships with Red Bull GasGas, the 23-year-old Spaniard has decided to shift gears in his career and cross the Atlantic. This move also marks the end of his long-standing relationship with KTM/Pierer Mobility.

Earlier this year, Prado got a taste of the American tracks, competing in the first four rounds of the AMA Supercross. His best results included a heat race win and a seventh place in a main event.

In a statement from Kawasaki, the rider from Lugo shared his excitement about the transition: ‘Coming to America to race Supercross, Motocross and the SuperMotocross World Championship with Monster Energy Kawasaki is an incredible opportunity. I’ve always admired the level of competition here, and I’m excited to challenge myself against some of the best riders in the world. This is a new chapter in my career, and I’m ready to give it everything I’ve got, representing a legendary factory like Kawasaki. The passion and intensity of the fans here is unmatched, and I can’t wait to experience that energy’.

Chase Sexton secured the AMA Pro Motocross 450 title this weekend, and he couldn’t have confirmed it more positively: he won both heats at the Ironman National to give Hunter Lawrence no chance. The Illinois rider secured victory in the championship after the first race and confirmed his dominance with another win in the second.

The start of the first heat was marked by a collision between Vincent Luhovey and Dylan Ferrandis in the first corner, allowing Phil Nicoletti, Lawrence and Aaron Plessinger to take the top positions. Plessinger overtook Lawrence and took the lead, but soon after it was Sexton who made the decisive overtake to lead the race, pulling away from the rest of the chasing pack along with Plessinger, Eli Tomac and Lawrence.

Sexton won the first race and immediately secured the much-desired title before the last race of the championship, which would serve as his “only” consecration.

But even the title he had already secured didn’t make Sexton relax, as he retook the lead from the start, sealing the championship with a flawless victory. Plessinger maintained his consistency and finished second, followed by Eli Tomac, who completed the podium after an impressive recovery to third place. Justin Cooper and Jason Anderson rounded out the top five, while Lawrence finished sixth. Phil Nicoletti, in his last full race in Pro Motocross, finished eighth.

The 1-1- was the icing on the cake for Sexton, who ends up the winner. Plessinger (2-2) and Tomac (4-3) completed the overall podium with strong displays.

Eli Tomac will continue with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing for the 2025 SuperMotocross World Championship season, marking his final year of full-time competition, which includes the AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross.

The 2025 season will be the fourth year with the team for the rider from Colorado, during which he won the AMA Supercross and AMA Pro Motocross championships in 2022, securing a total of 15 and 14 victories, respectively.

In a statement, Tomac expressed his satisfaction, saying: ‘I’m very pleased to announce I’ve signed with Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing for the entire 2025 SuperMotocross season. I anticipate 2025 being my final full season of professional SMX racing. While the last two Supercross seasons have had unfortunate endings with injury, we’ve had many more great race wins, and championships along the way. So now is the time to enjoy the ride, get back to winning races and competing for the SuperMotocross title’.

Star Racing team manager Jeremy Coker commented: ‘Having Eli make the decision to come back for another year is a big one for both him and the team. We are looking forward to his final year of racing and we will do everything in our power to have him go out on top’.

It’s all postponed until the final round of the AMA Pro Motocross 450 Championship, as Hunter Lawrence and Chase Sexton both took wins at the Budds Creek National. Sexton has more than a one-race lead and is the overwhelming favorite.

With the championship reaching the truly decisive stage, Sexton and Lawrence were the contenders for victory and every point counted towards the title.

And it was no different at the Budds Creek National, with Lawrence taking victory in the first race in almost completely dominant fashion: he won by more than 7s ahead of Sexton, with Aaron Plessinger taking third. The #7 Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider was also the only one to lead the race, with a total of three laps as leader, in addition to the #96.

In the second race, the scenario was reversed as far as the winner and runner-up were concerned: Sexton won, but it was Lawrence who got off to the best start, taking the holeshot and leading the first 12 laps at Budds Creek Motocross Park.

However, in the last five laps it was Sexton who moved to the front and took the win in the end, finishing with a gap of more than 9s over his Honda rival. Plessinger returned to third place.

Thus, with 47 points each, the title decisions were postponed until the final round of the AMA 450MX, the Ironman.

What is certain is that Sexton leads the championship with 454 points, 28 more than Lawrence, and with a total of 50 points up for grabs, he has plenty of room to manage and only a disaster will prevent him from winning the class title.

Chase Sexton continued his reign over the AMA Pro Motocross 450MX class this weekend at Washougal, securing two more moto wins and extending his championship lead over Hunter Lawrence, who had a less fortunate day.

Moto 1

Aaron Plessinger grabbed the holeshot in the first 450MX moto at Washougal, but a mistake on the final lap allowed Sexton to slip past and claim the victory. Lawrence battled Sexton for second place but went down and ended up in fifth. Justin Cooper completed the podium in third after a heated battle with Jason Anderson.

Plessinger took the lead early and quickly pulled away from Cooper while Lawrence and Anderson battled for third. Lawrence briefly went down but remounted quickly and applied pressure to Anderson. Sexton, who had a poor start, worked his way up through the pack and reached Ferrandis in fifth.

Sexton made the pass on Ferrandis and quickly closed in on Lawrence and Anderson. Lawrence made a mistake and went down, handing second place to Sexton. Sexton then made the move on Cooper to take the lead. Plessinger stalled his bike on the final lap, allowing Sexton to cruise to the moto win.

Moto 2

Sexton struck again to extend his winning streak to seven consecutive motos. The Red Bull KTM rider had to fight his way back to the front after a poor start but ultimately controlled the race.

Lawrence got out front early, grabbing the holeshot, but Jason Anderson quickly moved into the lead with Sexton close behind. Cooper went down early, opening the door for Sexton, who seized the opportunity.

Sexton pressured Lawrence heavily and eventually made the pass for the lead. Plessinger capitalized on Lawrence’s misfortune to move into second place, with Lawrence dropping back to fourth. Anderson, despite a strong pace, was unable to match Sexton and settled for second.

Malcolm Stewart and Dylan Ferrandis engaged in a spirited battle for fifth place, with Ferrandis emerging victorious.

Chase Sexton is on top form and he took another double win in AMA Pro Motocross, this time at Spring Creek. In both motos he had to go from the back to the front, but once he was in the lead no one could beat him.

In the first moto, the holeshot belonged to Hunter Lawrence, with Aaron Plessinger and Chase Sexton as his closest challengers. It didn’t take long for Plessinger and Lawrence to start battling for the lead, and Sexton joined them later: first he beat Plessinger, and gradually he was closing in on Lawrence, with the latter responding later and making up a bit of the gap to #4.

With nine minutes to go, Sexton was able to confirm the overtake, and despite Lawrence’s initial response, the KTM rider was able to get the upper hand and pull ahead, thus finishing in first place with a lead of more than 10s over Lawrence, second, and Plessinger third.

For the second moto the scenario was different at the start. Justin Cooper took the holeshot, Lawrence was second and Jason Anderson third, with Sexton this time in sixth.

Lawrence began by putting pressure on the leader, while Sexton was gradually catching up and being between 1 and 2 seconds faster than those in front of him, lap by lap, and it was no surprise that, about halfway through the race, the main changes began to emerge: Lawrence took the lead and Sexton also took the opportunity to tighten the pace and he too overtook Cooper.

With the clock ticking down to ten minutes, Sexton finally got into the lead and started gaining time straight away. He ended up confirming the double, with Lawrence again in second and Cooper in third.

Sexton leads the championship with 310 points, 13 more than Hunter Lawrence, while Justin Cooper is third with 249.
